The Beauty of God’s Diversity

Yet another “thanks, but no thanks” email arrived, rejecting my latest writing submission.

I just couldn’t understand why this well-respected women’s ministry wasn’t interested in publishing my writing.  I had followed their formula and adjusted my writing style to mimic the styles of their featured writers.  I was devastated, frustrated, and discouraged.  I thought my writing wasn’t good enough—and maybe– I wasn’t good enough.

Then the Holy Spirit whispered gently to my aching heart, “God designed you to be you, not someone else.  Be authentically you, even if others reject you.”

The Holy Spirit’s encouragement reminded me that God made me on purpose and with a purpose.  His purpose for me is not identical to anyone else’s.  Like my unique fingerprint, the work God called me to do is designed specifically for me.

The same is true for you too, Sis!

We all have God’s divine imprint built into our very being (Genesis 1:26-27), yet we are also a unique design made by the hands of God (Psalms 139:13-14).  He creatively formed us to be different.

Diversity is God’s idea!

We see the beauty of God’s diversity in humanity, plants, animals, landscapes, and seasons.  And according to Revelation 7:9-10, we will see this beautiful diversity in eternity, as we all unify to glorify God:

“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’”  Revelation 7:9-10 (NLT, emphasis added)

We are all part of the beautiful mosaic of God’s creation.

God’s magnificence is found in the individual pieces that come together to form a greater masterpiece.  Each piece maintains its unique identity, which makes the whole beautiful.  The same is true for God’s Kingdom—its beauty is expressed in each individual piece joining together to glorify God.

As Christian women communicators of color, we must embrace our unique perspectives and experiences as we share God’s word.  When we bring our full, authentic selves to our writing and speaking, the beauty of God’s diversity is on display.

Woman of God, your unique voice is an essential part of the beautifully diverse mosaic of God’s Kingdom

Your unique voice is an essential part of the beautifully diverse mosaic of God’s Kingdom.

Your words are needed.  The mosaic is not complete without your ministry.  Like Pentecost (Acts 2:1-12), who may need to hear you speak in their language?  Boldly declare your missing piece within the mosaic of God’s divine creation.

Reflection Questions:

What unique message is God calling you to share?

How can you incorporate your unique perspective and experiences in your writing and speaking?
